In 1973, when I joined the Bromeliad Society International, bromeliads were few and far between in the plant markets. The reason I joined was to have access to the society seed bank. I researched, ordered, and grew as many varieties of seed as there were listed. I concentrated on the species with the goal of selecting the finest plant for use in a hybridization program.
It seems I have a talent for growing bromeliads from seed. Very soon I had more small plants than I could ever keep no matter how large a growing area I acquired.
The Nursery has grown to a worldwide information and plant stock service. The concentration is still on development of species parent stock plants. In addition, my hybridization program is well into its second and third generation hybrids. These plants are currently undergoing field testing in a variety of interior landscape settings.
I am also an active, internationally accredited Bromeliad Master Judge.
Well, that’s the introduction. I’m glad you’ve stopped by. Do check back on the Greenhouse Diaries to receive my short messages about worldwide exotic plant events and growing tips. And, I look forward to meeting you if you choose to participate in my blog as well.
